Levine
As we all know, I struggle to appreciate comedy to begin with, and Emily Levine does not do much to encourage me to like it. It seemed to me as though she took longer than most comedians to get to her punch lines. Most times stand-up comics have the audience laughing more frequently than she did. Emily Levine offered a lot of knowledge and insight on a situation before she decided to make a joke out of it. This shows the definition of erudite (characterized by great knowledge; learned or scholarly) in her approach to comedy. She made reference to contradiction, rationality, and other things which I regret to say that I completely forget because I had an incredibly hard time focusing on her show. I would not necessarily critique her as "bad", but I have certainly found many other comedian's methods much more amusing and entertaining. I will give her credit in saying that the topics she discussed and the way she went about discussing them definitely makes the viewer think. As the side note on Ted calls her a "Philosopher Comedian", it shows that this is her goal. So ultimately, she is a good comedian for the style she is chooisng to perform.... it's just not for me.
